This 2006 Gibson Custom L-5 Wes Montgomery archtop is a penultimate jazz guitar and a masterfully crafted instrument. Inspired by Montgomery's renowned L5 that accompanied him throughout the '60s, this fully carved solid wood hollow body is finished in a beautiful vintage sunburst, and crafted with high grade spruce and flame maple. It boasts a highly figured flame maple neck, 20 fret bound ebony fingerboard with pearl block inlays, a single gold plated Gibson '57 Classic humbucker in the neck, an ABR-1 bridge with floating ebony base and classic L-5 gold tailpiece with Wes engraving. Other appointments include Gibson's flower pot headstock inlay, gold Gibson tuners, tortoise pickguard, and multiple body bindings.
This guitar is in good condition for it's age. It's been played and does have some normal surface swirls and pick scratches, and several scattered clear coat dings that can only be seen under direct light. There is a bit of finish lifting from the bass side of the fingerboard, and a small finish crack on the back of the headstock. There's also a larger scratch near the lower right bout, and some pitting on the tailpiece. Overall, the guitar still looks great and is completely structurally sound - it plays perfectly and sounds great - perfect neck, only some negligible fret wear. Includes original case.
