Hofner instruments were distributed in the UK and throughout the commonwealth by the largest British musical instrument distributor Selmer. They produced their own Selmer brand amplifiers, but also distributed guitars by Fender, Gibson, Hagstrom and of course Hofner. But Selmer Hofner guitars sometimes differed from those sold elsewhere, and typically had their own model names. The European Hofner models 161, 162, 163 and 164, were all sold in the UK with the name Colorama: Colorama I for single pickup guitars, and Colorama II for dual pickup.

This particular Colorama was produced between 1961 and 1963 and sports a double cutaway body with a bolt on neck, original tremolo, and a single original Hofner "Nova-Sonic" Diamond pickup.
