The Fender Esprit Standard from the 1980s is a rare and refined electric guitar crafted in Japan as part of Fender’s short-lived Master Series. Designed by Dan Smith to compete with Gibson’s humbucker-equipped models, the Esprit features a solid double-cutaway body with a carved maple top and a set maple neck, offering excellent sustain and resonance. Its Tobacco Sunburst finish highlights the elegant wood grain, while the rosewood fretboard and gloss finish add a touch of vintage class. With a 24.75" scale length and 22 frets, it delivers a comfortable playing experience suited for both rhythm and lead work.
Equipped with dual humbuckers in an HH configuration, the Esprit Standard produces a warm, harmonically rich tone with articulate highs and a full midrange. The bridge pickup offers bite and clarity, while the neck pickup delivers smooth, rounded lows—ideal for blues, jazz, and rock. Its stop-bar tailpiece and locking tremolo bridge ensure tuning stability and sustain, making it a versatile performer. Though only produced between 1985 and 1987, this MIJ model has earned a cult following for its craftsmanship and tonal depth, and it later inspired the Robben Ford Signature Series.
